Heart Defeats UNH Men

FAIRFIELD The University of New Haven men’s volleyball team fell in three sets (20-30, 24-30, 15-30) Sunday afternoon at the Pitt Center. The Chargers fall to 2-6 on the season and the Pioneers improve to 8-6.

The Chargers and Pioneers played very even in the opening points of the first set. The teams were tied at eight, but the Pioneers then took over the set. Sacred Heart took a 16-14 lead and then scored 14 of the last 20 points and took a 10-point victory.

In the second set, the teams were tied before the Pioneers rattled off four unanswered points. The Pioneers then took a 16-12 lead and held a comfortable three-point lead for the rest of the set. Sacred Heart sealed the set by going on another 3-0 run to take a 25-19 lead. The six-point deficit was too much for the Chargers to overcome.

In the final set UNH kept the score close in the opening half, and trailed 9-12. The Pioneers then went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-9 lead. Sacred Heart scored nine of the final 14 points and claimed the 30-15 win.

The Chargers continue on Weds., Mar. 4 when they host Sacred Heart at Charger Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
