Summer is, without a doubt, my favorite season. But don’t get me wrong, I still love this time of the year. It is a break from classes and school, time with friends and family, great food and traditions, and beautiful snow-covered streets. One thing I do not like, however, are all of the people who get offended by a “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Hannukah.” Yup, that’s right. It has to be “Happy Holidays.”

I’m so liberal that when I drive straight, I end up in the left lane. But, disunited from my left-wing brothers and sisters, I actually am not a huge fan of using the politically correct “Happy Holidays.” I’ve never been a huge fan of political correctness, but especially not in this case!

Having two grandparents who came from Christian households, I celebrate Christmas. I would get presents for Hannukah as well, however, since my other two grandparents grew up Jewish. It was present heaven as a kid.

Oh, but here’s the kicker: I’m agnostic. To me, the holiday season is more about relaxing and being with family and friends than it is anything else. I love Christmas music and Christmas trees, and white Christmases…but not for their religious context.

That said: if someone came up to me and wished me a Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hannukah, Happy Diwali, or Happy Three Kings Day instead of a Merry Christmas…guess what? I wouldn’t care! I would be glad they thought of me and wished me good freakin’ tidings during the holiday season.

Granted, there’s nothing wrong with saying “Happy Holidays.” We all do it, myself included. But it shouldn’t be an obligation to say it instead of something else, for fear of offending somebody. How the hell can you be offended for being given well wishes!?

So during this time of the year, I wish you all a very Happy Holidays! Happy Three Kings Day! Merry Christmas! Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and a belated Happy Diwali.

Offended?

Too bad.
