Mary Poppins Brings Magic to UNH Students

by Courtney Faber | February 3, 2010

Saturday night’s SCOPE-sponsored trip to see Mary Poppins on Broadway was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! As soon as the group of students stepped off the bus in Time Square, the night was magical.

Saturday night’s SCOPE-sponsored trip to see Mary Poppins on Broadway was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Despite the cold, Times Square still sparkled and all the lights left everyone in awe.

Once the show began, the magic continued. From the moment the show started to the moment it ended, it was filled with magnificent sets, wonderful costumes, lively dance numbers, and all the songs from the movie everyone loves. My favorite number was when the entire cast sang “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” The song was so upbeat and energetic I found myself entranced throughout the entire number. It was hard not to enjoy yourself as all of the songs and dance numbers were exciting. Even though the play is full of wonderful songs and dance numbers, it does have a serious message about putting family first and how “Anything can happen if you let it,” as stated in one of the numbers. Though some scenes are somewhat sad, when the Banks family comes to believe in the mantra that “anything can happen if you let it” everything soon changes for the better.

If you are headed to New York City anytime soon and want a fun evening out on the town, I highly recommend you go see Mary Poppins! You won’t regret it!
